Philosophy

Wood, with its many shades of color and wood grain patterns, is a beautiful medium for a craftsman to work with.  Every piece of work I complete is purposely designed to present complimentary exotic woods and finished with the goal of eliciting the most beautiful presentation of the wood's natural grain and beauty.

History:

Born and raised in Wisconsin, both of my parents were educators - my mother a home ec teacher with a love for sewing, crafting and quilting and my father an industrial arts/woodworking teacher with a passion for working with wood.  I am blessed to have both genetics and a creative childhood environment fostering my love for woodworking.

Martens Innovative Wood Creations

My love of woodworking is limited only to my imagination including custom design and built projects such as these: A 3-story Victorian dollhouse and a Credenza with tambour doors and gull-wing, stained-glass doors.   



                                  Dollhouse:  As an architect by trade, I custom-designed this dollhouse using the same construction detail one would normally expect on a full-size home. The house is built from scratch using stud-wall construction and is equipped with fully functioning incandescent lights.  The roof and walls are designed for easy disassembly and access for viewing the interior.

Credenza
A desire to learn how to make tambour doors and stained-glass door frames resulted in this custom-designed credenza. The bottom includes tambour doors for a finished look; the top includes stained-glass gull-wing door frames.
